A few days ago, Cricket Australia had announced its list of centrally contacted players. In the list some big names had been axed including the name of Queensland captain Usman Khwaja.
The Aussie legend Ricky Ponting has his piece of opinion on the topic saying that Usman Khwaja is a top class batsman but he will have to be consistent to be back in the squad.
We probably never saw the absolute best of him
Talking about Khwaja, the Ponting said that he shares a strong bond with the Queensland captain and feels for him since it would be a difficult for him to make a comeback in the team.
“I love Usman Khawaja, I got really close to him over the last 10 years since he made his debut and I talk to him quite regularly but honestly think now he’s going to find it difficult (to get back into the Australian team) and I feel for him,” Ponting told ABC Grandstand.
“I’ve always felt he’s a very good player and we probably never saw the absolute best of him at international cricket,” he added.
Truckload of runs in Domestic will certainly help him
The Test legend further backed the 33-year old player and said that he wouldn’t let anyone down if given a chance again in the team but the road to the Kangaroo team is a bit tough for him.
However, he suggested that playing in the domestic would certainly open the Australian camps’ gate for him.
“He’s got every opportunity once domestic cricket does start this summer, and all he can do is represent Queensland, get a truck load of runs under his belt and wait for another opportunity to come along.”
