Former India captain Rohit Sharma is set to begin a new inning of his career. The talismanic batter, who led the side to the 2024 T20 World Cup will make his entertainment debut with a family comedy entertainer ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’. The programme set to air on Sony Network, marks Sharma’s first entertainment project from cricket, and the platform is leaving no stone unturned to create hype about it. Ever since the announcement, several promotional videos have already been circulated on social media, and fans are excited to see this side of their favourite batter.
However, there have been claims circulating online that BCCI has initiated action against the cricketer over his show. The viral social media post alleges that the Indian cricketer has landed himself in hot waters by breaching the central contract rule and could face a lifetime ban. However, there is no credible evidence to support these claims. As of now, no official statement from BCCI, disciplinary notice or confirmation has been made regarding the alleged action.
What are BCCI’s Rules?
According to the viral post, the centrally contracted players cannot host their own shows while being under contract. However, as per reports, there are no clear BCCI provisions that directly prohibit active international players from hosting a TV programme. There are certain contractual, commercial and scheduling obligations, but appearing on television doesn’t count as a contract breach.
Speaking of Sharma, the 39-year-old has retired from the T20I and Test formats but is active in the 50-over format. He was listed in Grade B in the BCCI’s 2025-26 central contracts, covering the period from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026. Hence, his TV debut should not be interpreted as a cricket ban or retirement from international cricket.
