Alistair Dobson, Chief of the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) has declared that Cricket Australia (CA) is open to all the suggestions and feedback, which certainly would make the game more interesting for the fans.
Cricket Australia is currently assessing the findings of an Independent report tabled by David Barham, the television-sports guru who took the BBL to great heights while at Channel 10
Being Innovative And Creative Is In BBL’s DNA
David Barham has suggested a number of changes for the game that could attract the crowd to stadium. The report was submitted to counter the sudden decline of fans and audiences.
One of the proposals that suggest splitting the T20 matches in the BBL into four innings became the hot topic among cricket enthusiasts.
“It’s an interesting idea,” Dobson told SEN.
“Being innovative and creative is in the BBL’s DNA and right now, more than ever, it’s going to be important that we’re open to all range of suggestions.
“It comes back to the question around close run chases and exciting finishes and if there are ways you can adjust the game to create that uncertainty of outcome … two run chases within a game or different allocation of points within a game, they’re all interesting ways,” added Dobson.
It’s Not The First Time
Although, the proposal by David Barham has stunned the cricket fans, on becoming a rule, it won’t be the first time when Cricket Australia applied such innovations.
Cricket Australia, in 2010, surprised the fans by splitting the innings of the domestic one-day tournament. The innovation was scrapped after single season only at that time.
“Conversation around innovation and creativity is being largely led by them (broadcasters)” said the BBL chief and also noted that finding a window for Australian superstars to play as much BBL as possible remains a scheduling priority.
