“I’m Done With It”- Virat Kohli Shuts Door on Test Cricket Comeback at One8 Global Premiere in Delhi

The speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s potential return to Test cricket has finally been put to rest. The former captain of India, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of his era, made his stance clear during the global launch of his One8 brand in Delhi on Sunday.

When host Danish Sait playfully asked if he would consider returning to Test cricket to add to his impressive tally of 9,230 runs, Kohli responded decisively: “I’m done with it.”

This statement effectively wrapped up months of discussion about a possible comeback. Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, closing the chapter on a remarkable 14-year red-ball career that saw him score 9,230 runs, notch up 30 centuries, and become India’s most successful Test captain.

His comment also echoed a mindset he had hinted at previously. During the IPL 2026 season, he expressed that he no longer wanted to be in situations where he felt the need to constantly prove his worth. Kohli emphasized that while he remains fully dedicated whenever he plays, he would only continue in environments where his contributions are acknowledged. This perspective sheds light on his approach after stepping away from the longest format of the game.

Virat Kohli Included in India’s ODI Squad for England Tour

In the meantime, Kohli continues to be a crucial part of India’s plans for the ODI format. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included him in the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. However, whether he plays or not hinges on his fitness clearance.

The seasoned batter missed the recent ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury he picked up during the IPL 2026 final while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After undergoing medical assessments, Kohli is currently in rehabilitation and is set for a fitness evaluation before he can get the final go-ahead. As a result, the selectors have named him in the squad, but only if he passes the necessary tests.

Even with the injury setback, Kohli is still a key player in India’s journey toward the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 37-year-old had a stellar IPL 2026 season, racking up 675 runs in 16 matches and leading RCB to victory. With his Test career officially behind him, he’s now laser-focused on the 50-over game.
