With another milestone in red-ball cricket, India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill has risen to eighth position in the new ICC Test bat rankings, courtesy a hundred against Afghanistan. Gill has thus become the highest-ranked Test batsman in the current ICC Test rankings for India. His 126-run innings has been instrumental behind Gill’s latest ascent in the rankings. It would be pertinent to mention that India’s Test team is slowly beginning to move towards a more youthful core and Shubman Gill has emerged as a vital cog in that process.
There were also some notable developments in the other end of the ICC Test bat ranking update. English all-rounder Harry Brook made a return to top spot in the rankings with an innings of 56 in the ongoing Lord’s Test against New Zealand. On the other hand, Travis Head of Australia has moved up one slot to take second position, while England’s Joe Root is placed third in the latest rankings update despite scoring just 1 and 8 runs in the game.
