Former Pakstan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar feels Pakistan Super League (PSL) would not take place in next 16 or 18 months since the ongoing pandemic hit it hard.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Shoaib Akhtar said PSL is facing a huge economic crisis and team owners are looking to sell their team.
“I know some people wouldn’t like to hear this but some owners are looking to sell their franchisees,” Hindustan Times quoted the bowler as saying.
PSL can’t be held before 16 to 18 months
Speaking on the TV show, the bowler who earned the moniker of ‘Rawalpindi Express’ for his pace bowling, doubted if the Pakistani League could be held before 16 or 18 months.
“I think if we do the math, the PSL can’t be held before 16 to 18 months. The World Cup will also take probably after eight months because time is needed for the Coronavirus issue to settle down,” Hindutstan Times quoted Akhtar as saying on the show.
He further added that team owners are looking to sell their teams due to the economic crisis.
“I don’t think the board can ask for money from the franchisees in this situation. As far as I know some franchises are already ready to sell their brand. They have offers.”
Would not let PSL die due to financial crisis
Speaking further the Rawalpindi Express said neither ICC, nor BCCI can decide the fate of the T20 World Cup. According to him Australian government’s policies and guidelines would decide the fate of the showpiece event.
“I don’t think the ICC, Cricket Australia or BCCI can do anything about it. This decision will come from the Australian government. The policies of the Australian government will decide when the World T20 is held,” Shoaib Akhtar was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.
Shoaib also maintained that he would not let the PSL die due to the financial crisis and he would be more than happy to provide financial and non-monetary support to keep the PSL alive and thriving.
