Ian Chappell, the former Australian batsman, and captain feel that Virat Kohli stands ahead of his contemporaries. He said Virat Kohli’s textbook shots and incredible fitness makes him the best of the group which consists of Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, and the Indian captain himself.
The former Aussie batter was speaking on ‘The RK Show’, hosted by Radhakrishnan Sreenivasan on YouTube.
“Of that group (including Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Joe Root), Kohli is the best in all three forms. That’s unquestionable,” said Chappell on the show.
Kohli has the likes of Vivian Richards
When asked about the reason, Ian Chappell had has some supportive arguments with him. He said that Virat never rush into fancy shots, he knows his talent and outplay everyone with that only.
Explaining further he added that Virat is a short-form player which very much resemblance with Viv Richards, one if the greatest shot form player.
“The best short-form player in the time I played was Viv Richards, and he just played normal cricket shots but he placed the ball so well he was able to score at a very fast rate. And Kohli’s the same. He plays traditional cricket shots, and he plays them really well.”
Fitness freak and a fearless captain
Speaking further, the former batting great hailed the Indian captain for for his commitment towards fitness.
“The other thing that stands out about Kohli is his fitness and running between the wickets. The way he pushes himself, he’s incredibly fit.”
The Aussie captain also praised Kohli for his fearless captaincy. The way he captains the team, it seems he doesn’t mind losing a game in the process to win and that makes him really impressive as captain, concluded Ian Chappell.
