Glenn Maxwell is once again in the limelight this time in the PSL 2026 tournament. Glenn Maxwell is a dynamic batsman and all-rounder from Melbourne. He started his franchise cricketing career rather slowly but came up with an inspiring show with a stunning innings of 70 from just 37 balls against Peshawar Kings for Hyderabad Kingsmen. Not only does this inning help in improving his form but helps in transforming the whole team’s fortunes. This impressive show helped him achieve another rare feat as well; he became one of the players with 10,000+ T20 runs and 200+ T20 wickets, placing him among the elite group.
The Aussie star was all-praise for the support staff as he said, “They probably didn’t get the results they deserved in the first four games, but the groundwork that Coach, Jason Gillespie and Captain, Marnus Labuschagne had set for the group was destined to come off at some stage.”
It must be noted that it was not easy for Maxwell to come up with such a stellar show. He started his PSL 2026 campaign with disappointing results scoring just 26 runs in his first five innings. However, Maxwell managed to perform at an important moment. That innings shifted momentum, not just for him but for the entire Hyderabad Kingsmen squad. It also added another chapter to his unpredictable but impactful T20 journey.
Hyderabad Kingsmens’ Turn Around
With Hyderabad Kingsmen having already lost their first four matches, the season seemed all but over for them. However, things took an interesting turn as the side won 5 out of their next 6 games and booked their place in the playoffs. The addition of Maxwell in their squad played an instrumental role in improving the team balance.

Glenn Maxwell regarding his PSL-journey said, “PSL experience has been great so far. I’ve been extremely lucky to be part of a really good side. I’ve been extremely lucky to come over to a really good side.”
Though Maxwell’s numbers in terms of runs scored and wickets taken do not stand out (96 runs & 4 wickets in 6 games), his contribution to the game can be seen when it mattered most. His experience and presence helped stabilize the middle order and added depth to the bowling unit.
Maxwell Changed the Playoff Race
This was the game that stood out for Maxwell. Walking in at 119-5, he scored an explosive 70 runs innings. The knock that included many boundaries was instrumental in Kingsmen posting a score of 244-6. This innings was vital, as Maxwell scored while contributing with the ball as well as the fielding end. Most importantly, Maxwell played this knock under pressure and with a purpose. The knock made sure that the team had a great winning margin in terms of runs and net run rate.
In addition to this, Maxwell showed his adaptive skills. Maxwell changed his playing style according to the situation of the pitch and bowlers, showing tactical awareness.
Dream Comeback Within Reach?
What remains to be seen is whether the Hyderabad Kingsmen could pull off their fairytale story. Going from being a favorite for the early exit to making it into the play-offs was already an incredible journey. What Maxwell brought to the table is much more than statistics. By sharing his knowledge with the youth, he showed them how important resilience is when things are going rough.
Now that the team is through to the knock-out round, one thing is certain – they are a strong, balanced team who could match up with the best.
