Yashasvi Jaiswal wants to keep wickets for Indian team: Mumbai Captain Siddhesh Lad

Yashasvi Jaiswal could soon be seen taking up a completely different role on the cricket field. The India and Mumbai batter is reportedly keen to start keeping wickets, with Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad revealing that the left-hander has been working towards the possibility.

Jaiswal has already made a name for himself as one of India’s most exciting young batters. However, his reported interest in wicketkeeping could add another skill to his game and potentially give him more responsibility in the future.

According to Siddhesh Lad, Jaiswal is keen to begin keeping wickets for Mumbai and has ambitions of eventually doing the same for the Indian team.

Lad suggested that Jaiswal is trying hard to develop his wicketkeeping skills and wants to explore the possibility of taking up the role. While there is no confirmation yet about whether he will regularly keep wickets in competitive matches, the ambition itself is certainly interesting.

Jaiswal has predominantly been used as a specialist batter throughout his career. He has established himself as a top-order option for India, particularly in Test cricket, where his ability to play long innings has made him an important part of the team.

Taking up wicketkeeping would be a major addition to his responsibilities. It is a specialised role that requires plenty of practice, sharp reflexes and consistency behind the stumps.

For Mumbai, Jaiswal becoming a wicketkeeper could provide greater flexibility while selecting the playing XI. If he eventually becomes comfortable with the gloves, it could also give India another option in the future.
