Lando Norris backs Max Verstappen to stay in F1 after drivers win rule changes

A storm caused by the introduction of the new rules in Formula One has brought one of its biggest figures into the limelight. Max Verstappen, who is a four-time world champion and perhaps the most dominating driver during the last ten years, has shown his disapproval of the 2026 rules and has considered leaving the sport. This possibility causes concern among many people. Currently, the reigning champion Lando Norris stands up for his competitor and believes that Verstappen should stay since there is still much work to be done. In particular, the young man is convinced that Verstappen could achieve another victory and that Formula One would lose its charm without him.

The situation arose because of drastic changes implemented this year, when almost half of the power of a Formula One car was generated using electric energy. According to drivers, such cars are hard to operate since the sensation while driving is strange and unusual. Nevertheless, recent adjustments carried out by the FIA will help solve the problem until the Miami Grand Prix.

Lando Norris when asked about Max Verstappen’s chances, said “I just saw that he said he wants to win the fifth world championship at the minute, so I’m sure he’ll stay longer than people say.”

However, Norris has not been worried about the possible early retirement of Verstappen. He noted that the ambition of Verstappen himself was sufficient proof that Verstappen had no intention of retiring. Although Verstappen has criticized the regulations fiercely, Norris has argued that Verstappen was simply being honest and not frustrated. He stressed that top drivers want to compete against the very best, and Verstappen sets that benchmark.

On Wednesday Norris while speaking at an event about racing against Max Verstappen said “It would be a shame for us because as much as he makes our lives incredibly tough at times, he’s always good fun to race against and it’s always cool to race against someone that’s won four world championships.”

On the other hand, Norris has also acknowledged that losing Verstappen will be damaging for Formula One. He considers Verstappen one of the greatest drivers ever in Formula One. For the existing drivers, the presence of Verstappen adds more competitiveness to their races. Even rivals, Norris suggested, value the challenge he brings every race weekend.

From Dominance to Doubt – But Legacy Holds Strong

Despite the difficulties at the beginning of the season under the new regulations, Verstappen’s recent achievements characterize him. In the last championship, he won more times than any other racer and put pressure on Norris until the final race. These impressive results define the modern epoch of Formula One.

Although the team does not show good results now, his career achievements still speak for themselves. During the last five to ten years, Verstappen has become the benchmark in Formula One. His results, aggressive driving style, and consistency have allowed him to become the example that all opponents follow. This is why his possible departure is not only his personal career step but also a significant transformation of the whole sport.

In summary, despite some controversial situations at the beginning of the year under the new regulations, the statements of the FIA and the attitude of rivals indicate that stability will return soon. The support of the champion is significant because he can influence the opinion of many people. For now, the expectations are obvious – Verstappen continues fighting.
