Indian left-arm spinner Shree Charani has become the highest-rated bowler in the history of women’s T20I cricket. In the latest ICC rankings update, she climbed to 817 rating points, surpassing the previous all-time high of 806 held by Australia’s Megan Schutt since November 2018. It is a historic moment for Indian cricket and for a young woman who only made her international debut last year. Within a short time she has gone from domestic cricket and a WPL stint with Delhi Capitals to standing at the top of the T20I bowling rankings.
Born in Kadapa district on 4 August 2004, the 22-year-old left-arm spinner tried badminton and other sports before settling on cricket, guided by family support and sheer determination. Her recent form has been extraordinary. She played a crucial role and had a successful Asia Cup campaign and a gold-medal run at the Asian Games.

Sree Charani played a crucial part in India’s gold-medal campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The left-arm spinner produced her career-best figures of 4 for 10 against hosts Japan in the quarter-finals, breaking through the batting line-up and helping India cruise into the semi-finals. In the gold-medal match against Sri Lanka she picked up two more wickets for just 13 runs as India posted a dominant 147-run victory to secure the title.
She was coming immediately after a strong Asia Cup performance, where she took 12 wickets including a four-for in the final, Charani carried that form into the multi-sport event. The Asian Games gold added another major achievement to her career and also lifted her rating points to the new all-time high of 817. At the age of just 22 she already holds the No. 1 ranking and the highest rating points ever recorded.
