India came back strong on the second day of the Antigua Test match against the Windies. At the end of the day, two India looks more settled than the previous day and have a clear advantage over the hosts. Here are the complete WI vs IND test 1 day 2 highlights.
Pant failed
WI vs IND test 1 day 2 highlights saw Indians began the journey on day two with young Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on the crease. Pant was on 20 and Jadeja was only on three. The keeper batsman had the challenge to prove himself better than Saha waiting in the dressing room. Pant’s focus is also currently now to fit into Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s shoes. But Pant could not utilize the opportunity in hand this time. He could add four more runs to his tally before walking off. Once Pant was gone for 24 runs India were once again in trouble within just two overs into the day’s game.
Jadeja, the survivor
Jadeja needed to hold the innings. Jadeja did. But he also required an able partner to carry on India’s score to a decent one. Ishant Sharma reciprocated. Both batted with grit and determination for 19 overs together. The WI vs IND test 1 day 2 highlights was their partnership literally frustrated the Windies bowlers. Their partnership of 60 runs saw India once again returning to the match with control, slowly and steadily. Ishant scored a valuable 62-ball 19 runs. The maturity the duo showed in the middle after the collapse of the top order cannot be measured by some mere runs. Gabriel once again provided the breakthrough and picked up Ishan with India’s score on 267.
Ravindra Jadeja kept his cool and batted for few more overs with the tail. He, along with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah added 20 more runs to the total before getting out for 58. His knock came in 112 balls showed how gracefully he handled the situation on day two singlehandedly. This was his 4th half century in last six Test matches and supported his all-rounder credentials well. Overall this was Jadeja’s 11th half century in the longer format of the game.
WI vs IND test 1 day 2 highlights saw Kemar Roach ending as the most successful opponent bowler with 4/66 in 25 overs. Shannon Gabriel took three wickets and Roston Chase managed two with Jason Holder scalping the most important wicket of Jadeja on day two.
Decent West Indies
West Indies, in reply, were doing well. Although they were losing wickets at frequent intervals they did not look out of track initially. Shami gave the first blow by picking up John Campbell (23) in the 8th over. Then next wicket was taken by Ishant Sharma and Kraigg Brathwaite was gone for 14 runs in the 18th over. Immediately Shamarh Brooks was sent back by Jadeja and West Indies were on 50/3 from 48/2 within three overs. India was certainly in control of the game.
But then Darren Bravo and Roston Chase came together to hold the innings. Both added 38 runs before Bravo was gone for 18 runs by Bumrah. Chase was on his own mission and with Shai Hope continued the journey. He ended as the highest scorer for the Windies with 48 runs. Even after missing the half-century, his innings became the most cherished one for the hosts. His partnership of 42 runs with Hope was another key point of resistance from the Windies. Sharma took his second week of the innings by picking up Chase. West Indies were on 130/5 with Hope and Shimron Hetmyer on the crease. Another showcase of maturity and timeliness was on display. Both added 44 runs for the 6th wicket before Hope was the victim of Ishant for 24 runs.
Late show by Ishant
West Indies were 174/6 in 53.6 overs. Then what happened within the next three overs was a work of absolute brilliance. Ishant after scalping Hope in the 54th over returned in the 56th. He took two more wickets in that over to make Windies suddenly crawl with 179/8 from 174/6. West Indies would have probably hoped to end the day on a positive note but Ishant’s late spell of 3/8 spoilt the plan.

Ishant has eight five-fers in Test cricket outside the home; the joint third most for any Indian with BC Chandrasekhar and Zaheer Khan.
