Top 5 Bowlers With Most No-Balls In IPL History

It has always been known that bowlers face a lot of pressure in IPL games. If a bowler missteps even for a second, his ideal delivery could turn into a no-ball. Every run counts in the T20 format and therefore such balls make an impact on the game very quickly. In the past, many star bowlers made this mistake due to excessive pace or aggression while bowling. Surprisingly enough, many top wicket takers in the history of the league have also made the list of players having the maximum number of no-balls.

As the IPL season of 2026 unfolds, we see that the player leading this unfortunate list has taken a total of 39 no-balls. This position is held by none other than Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler. Behind him are names like Umesh Yadav, S. Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma, and Amit Mishra.

1. Jasprit Bumrah (39)

With 39 no-balls to his name, Jasprit Bumrah leads the charts for the most no-ball record in the history of the Indian Premier League. In the tournament, he has taken 186 wickets from 155 matches. Over his career in the league, he has delivered 3,000 plus deliveries and remains a top death-bowling prospect in T20 cricket.

The pace, yorkers, and tight angles used by Bumrah while bowling are highly aggressive. His style of bowling often provides very little leeway at the crease. Despite the undesirable statistics in his name, he has played a pivotal role in the five IPL titles that the Mumbai Indians have won and continues to be one of the league’s most dependable bowlers.

2. Umesh Yadav (24)

Umesh Yadav is at second place, who bowled 24 no-balls during his entire career in the Indian Premier League. He played in 148 matches and took 144 wickets during his tenure with various teams including Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.

A right-arm pacer with a delivery speed of more than 140 kilometers per hour, Umesh Yadav used to bowl with pace and bounce. At times, his aggressive way of walking towards the batsman from his delivery end caused him overstepping. He also played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL-winning campaign in 2014.

3. S. Sreesanth (23)

S. Sreesanth bowled 23 no-balls while playing only 44 IPL matches. He bowled 880 deliveries in the IPL matches for teams such as Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Rajasthan Royals.

He still boasts a high no-ball percentage as compared to the other bowlers who have featured on this list. Sreesanth had a temperamental approach towards the game. He used to be always looking for wickets; that made him bowl very close to the crease.

4. Ishant Sharma (23)

23 no-balls were bowled by Ishant Sharma as well during his stint with the Indian Premier League. The experienced fast bowler played 117 matches in the IPL and picked up 96 wickets playing for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans.

He was more known for the bounce and seam variation than for his slow deliveries. The long approach run along with front-foot delivery would sometimes give him trouble in the circle.

5. Amit Mishra (21)

Amit Mishra completes the list with 21 no-balls in 162 IPL matches. The leg-spinner picked up 174 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37 while playing for Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants.

Unlike the pacers above him, Mishra’s presence on this list is unusual because spinners rarely bowl no-balls. However, his long IPL career and attacking leg-spin contributed to the tally. He also remains the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in IPL history.
