Cricket is all set to return in South Africa with South Africa cricketers likely to roll their sleeves up for resumption of training. South Africa will soon join the list of other boards like ECB and Cricket Australia which have allowed their player to resume training.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Cricket South Africa (CSA) hopes to submit their plans this week, with a view to resume training next week.
Resumption of training will in phases
According to a report by ANI, the resumption of training will be a phased process with players starting their training at respective local grounds under the government’s guidelines. Cricketers will also follow ICC’s advisory of not using saliva to polish the ball and changing restrictions.
The next phase of training will be decided by Cricket South Africa by reviewing situations closely. The apex body will further decide whether to allow across the province travelling for eventual games subject to obtaining permission.
Players will not be forced to resume training
The report further stated that the board will prioritize safety of cricketers and staffs involved with the game and it will not force any individual to resume training.
“I have already had discussions with the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) and I would like to stress that no player, coach, support staff or administrator will be forced to return to training if they are uncomfortable with it at this stage,” ANI quoted CSA Acting Chief Jacques Faul as saying in an official statement.
Notably, entering in winter season will make the things slight easy for the South African players as their next assignment is against West Indies in July-August.
Considering the current situation, the series that comprises two-Test and five-match T20 is likely to be postponed since West indies will be in England until end of July.
