On the Saliva ban, Australia’s fast bowling star Pat Cummins urged the cricket administrators to allow some artificial applicator for shining the ball. He while welcoming the step that allows bowlers to use sweat said that lawmakers should think to allow an alternate option of saliva.
Notably, ICC Cricket Committee on Monday recommended the prohibition of saliva considering the safety and well being of players. The Australian manufacturer Kookaburra also noted that the safety of players are their first priority and hence the manufacturer has been developing a wax applicator as an alternate to saliva.
We have to have another option of Saliva Ban
Cummins accepted the health reason and said it should not be risked at any level but maintained that an artificial substance should be allowed.
“If we remove saliva, we have to have another option,” he told cricket.com.au.
“Sweat’s not bad, but I think we need something more than that, ideally. Whatever that is, wax or I don’t know what,” added Cummins.
The other side of the story
Cummins further said on Saliva Ban, that even though allowing sweat is in favour of bowlers, it’s not enough as nobody can control the amount of sweating. He brought the weather prospect in and questioned what bowlers would do in a comparatively cold day when it be a bit difficult to produce sweat.
“Your slip cordon is normally the ones shining the ball and they’re not huge sweaters standing there all day. It’ll be interesting, it’ll be an adjustment.
Moreover, the quick bowling star hoped that we will reach the day when saliva would be considered safe again.
“Hopefully we’ll get to a stage where saliva is deemed safe. Hopefully we can go back to that, to how it was,”
Cummins added.
