Max Verstappen has finally ended speculation over his F1 future by extending his Red Bull contract until the end of 2030. The announcement came ahead of this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix. The champion had been linked with Mercedes and McLaren, while his previous deal ran until 2028. The deal keeps him at the team where he won all four world titles.
Verstappen made it clear that his decision was driven by his bond with Red Bull. “I have always said it: the team is like a second family for me and I feel very at home. I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships. To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special and something I have always wanted to do.” Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies said, “Having Max continue with us and retaining the best driver on the grid is fantastic news for everyone at Red Bull, Oracle Red Bull Racing, as well as F1 and motorsport as a whole.”
Max Verstappen’s 2030 renewal to reshape 2027 F1 grid
Max Verstappen’s decision to stay with Red Bull until 2030 has removed one of the biggest question marks surrounding the 2027 Formula 1 grid. The four-time world champion’s future had been one of the main talking points in the driver market, with speculation linking him with a move away from Red Bull. His renewal now gives the team some much-needed stability, although the second seat remains a question mark. Isack Hadjar’s current deal runs only through 2026, meaning Red Bull will still have to decide whether to keep him or look elsewhere. At McLaren, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri remain tied down, while Ferrari also has a settled top pairing in Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Mercedes, meanwhile, could still have some decisions to make. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli are both expected to remain in contention for the seats, but their 2027 status had not been fully confirmed in the source material. Further down the grid, several teams face bigger uncertainty. Aston Martin have questions around Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, while Racing Bulls, Haas and Audi also have seats that could change. Williams have Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon as key pieces, with Sainz’s future among the areas to watch. With Verstappen’s future finally settled, attention now shifts to the remaining vacancies and whether one move could trigger a wider reshuffle before the 2027 season.
