PSL History: Winners & Runners List from All Seasons

A tournament that started swiftly in 2016 has emerged as one of the toughest when it comes to finishing matches. In its ten seasons, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been won by six teams, with Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars taking the lead by winning three titles each. Whether it was the domination of Islamabad or Lahore, every single season has influenced how the PSL has been remembered. One-sided victories, close contests, and one-run wins characterize the tournament. The following winners between 2016 and 2025 show how evenly the PSL has been played.

Through time, the league went from playing in stadiums of UAE to playing in full stadiums of Pakistan. The standards were elevated each year. New talent surfaced, captains pulled out their tricks, yet Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi teams continued making finals and failed to come through. Therefore, the title competition remained exciting for spectators.

2016 – Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators

Quetta set 174/7 in the first-ever final. Islamabad chased confidently, reaching 175/4 in 18.4 overs. The 6-wicket win set the tone for future PSL competitions.

2017 – Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators

Peshawar scored 148/6. Their bowlers then crushed Quetta, who were all out for 90. The 58-run win remains the biggest margin in PSL finals history.

2018 – Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi

Zalmi ended up posting 148/9. Islamabad’s run chase remained fairly balanced as well. They managed to reach 149/7 when there were a couple of deliveries left in the game.

2019 – Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar scored 138/8, but it was not enough. Quetta chased smoothly, reaching 139/2 in under 18 overs. The 8-wicket win showed clear dominance with little pressure.

2020 – Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars

Lahore managed 134/7 in a low-scoring game. Karachi chased carefully, avoiding risks. They reached 135/5 in 18.4 overs. The 5-wicket win came through controlled batting rather than aggression.

2021 – Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi

Multan performed exceptionally well. They scored 206 runs for four wickets using their aggressive batting strategy. On the other hand, Peshawar could not cope with such a high run rate and were dismissed for 159 runs for nine wickets.

2022 – Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultans

Lahore took control right from the beginning of the match. They amassed 180 runs in the loss of five wickets through solid batting. After this, their bowlers kept Multan to just 138 runs.

2023 – Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultans

The Lahore team made 200/6 runs, setting a tough target for their opponents. Multan were close to surpassing that target, finishing at 199/8. This game came down to the very last delivery, as Lahore won by only 1 run.

2024 – Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans

The Multan total was 159/9, playing cautiously in their allotted innings. There were a few instances where Islamabad’s chase appeared to be in trouble. But they stayed focused and reached 163/8 in the last over.

2025 – Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators

Quetta had posted a stiff total of 201 for the loss of nine wickets. Lahore put up a solid batting performance to chase down this target. They finished at 204 for the loss of four wickets, having won the match by six wickets.

In general, all the PSL final matches had their own characters. Some matches were won easily at the start of the match, while others were very close, going right down to the last ball.
