New Zealand Cricket’s top cricketing award ceremony has been continued to make headlines for three days. On the third day of the online award ceremony, New Zealand announced its best T20I and ODI player of the year in men and women categories.
While men’s team skipper won the ‘ODI player of the year, the White Fern’s (National women’s cricket team) skipper Sophie Devine got the ‘T20I Player of the year’ award.
At the same event, Ross Taylor took home the ‘Men’s T20I Player of the year’ and Suzie Bates was rewarded for her consistency with the bat as she claimed the women’s ODI player of the year.
Kane Fully Deserves His Selection
Williamson performed tremendously well with his band and with his captaincy this year. With his captaincy, he almost took his team home to win the ODI world cup title before losing to England with the unusual “boundries” concept.
With his bat, the NZ skipper scored 578 runs at an average of 82, including two centuries to become the Player of the tournament in the World Cup.
“Kane fully deserved his selection. He builds great partnerships with our well-established middle order and when he bats deep in an ODI inning, we’ll invariably be in a good position to win most of those matches.”
Gary Stead, NZ’s head coach.
“He leads the team well, he has his own style and certainly the respect of his peers. His calm, purposeful demeanour flows through his leadership and, in turn, the team,” he added.
White Ferns Head Coach Hailed The Winners
Bob Carter, the head coach of women’s team praised both the players on winning the awards in Women’s categories.
She acknowledged Suzie as a world class player while praised the White Ferns skipper Sophie for her consistent performance at the top.
“Our T20 side is at its best when Sophie is scoring runs at the top. She gives others around her the freedom to play their natural game while Suzie paces an ODI innings really well and has the ability to read fields and pre-empt what opposition captains are trying to do and how they are looking to contain or restrict her game,” said Carter.
