Narendra Modi Stadium witnesses record-breaking attendance of 98,697 during GT vs RCB IPL 2026

It was a sea of fans who took what was a normal league match night to new heights. The Match No. 42 of the IPL held on April 30, 2026, saw an attendance of a whopping 98,697 fans in the Narendra Modi Stadium located in Ahmedabad, which also marked the highest attendance recorded for the year. The massive turnout reflected the high stakes and star power of a Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash. This being the case, the match had to have all the elements for a great event at the world’s biggest cricket stadium.

The match itself lived up to its hype, and the atmosphere in the stadium was intense. There was a fast-paced game in which there were quick shifts in momentum. RCB came off as aggressive but lost track of the way forward, whereas GT had different plans. The chase was swift, and the result was decisive, but not without moments of resistance and individual brilliance.

Holder’s All-Round Show Powers GT

The momentum of the game was clearly tipped in their favor due to an all-around performance by Jason Holder. This man affected the game in many aspects – by claiming crucial wickets and completing three vital catches. He dominated almost every aspect of RCB’s play throughout their innings. With RCB losing ground in terms of momentum, his contributions made sure that they did not bounce back from their slump. His effort earned him the Player of the Match award and set the base for GT’s control.

Bright Spots for RCB Amid Collapse

Nevertheless, RCB had a couple of positives to show for the defeat. Virat Kohli was on top of his game at the start, hitting out hard with aplomb and striking boundaries at will, before getting out for a brisk 28 runs. Devdutt Padikkal also made valuable contributions with a 40 run innings. In the later stages, Bhuvneshwar Kumar shone with the ball, claiming three wickets and remaining disciplined throughout.

GT Wrap It Up with Authority

GT did not waste any time chasing 156. Shubman Gill began proceedings by making an explosive start and scored 43 runs in quick succession. This was followed by a quick 39 runs from Jos Buttler and kept the scoring rate low. Despite losing a couple of wickets during that period, the chase was always looking easy. The final touches were put on by Rahul Tewatia, who ensured that the team won with plenty of deliveries to spare, in 15.5 overs. The win boosted their net run rate and kept their playoff hopes alive.
