Mustafizur Rahman, Ousted From IPL Due To Bangladesh Conflict, Cannot Even Play PSL

A quick stoppage has come about for one of the dependable fast bowlers of Bangladesh. The bowler who has gained reputation for his quick cutters and composure, Mustafizur Rahman, has unfortunately been sidelined from both the IPL and the PSL. While having already released him from the IPL, the left-arm pacer has been dropped from the PSL 2026 due to injury problems and a withdrawn No Objection Certificate from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The board has prioritized his recovery and national commitments over franchise cricket.

The decision was made just after the completion of the ODI series of Bangladesh versus the national cricket team of New Zealand. Due to the injuries he had suffered, medical experts recommended immediate scans and then rehabilitation. As a result, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to withdraw his NOC, thus putting an end to his PSL stint halfway through. This also closed the door on a return to his franchise, despite a steady campaign earlier in the tournament.

NOC Blow Ends PSL Return Dream

This was mainly because of something that happened outside the game. Mustafizur was playing for Lahore Qalandars and had even played five games. He was having some knee trouble and hence precaution had to be taken. This is when BCB intervened after the ODI series, revoked his NOC. With this NOC revoked, it was impossible for him to play in foreign leagues. As a result, his PSL 2026 journey ended abruptly, despite being available earlier.

Comeback Sparked Hope, But Short-Lived

Indeed, Mustafizur proved his worth when he came back on the field after two ODIs missed on account of fitness issues. In the third and final ODI, he delivered his best and earned himself an important hat-trick, securing five wickets for 43 runs. This performance helped Bangladesh win the series 2-1. Nonetheless, it became clear that Mustafizur’s work needs proper management.

Another Exit: Nahid Rana Also Pulled Back

The decision made by the BCB was not just about the single player. Another young pacer, Nahid Rana, was also banned from resuming his career in the PSL. Previously, he used to play for Peshawar Zalmi. Although he did well in the last season, yet the decision to let him relax was made by the board of cricket control. The focus is now on preparing him for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan. This reflects a broader strategy to manage fast bowlers’ workload.

Numbers Tell Mustafizur’s PSL Story

Prior to leaving, Mustafizur made a decent contribution to PSL 2026. He appeared in five games and took six wickets, which is not too impressive, considering his potential. However, the economy rate of seven wickets per game was satisfactory enough for him to be an important member of the Qalandars’ team. On the other hand, Nahid Rana’s contributions were more noticeable, with him taking seven wickets in four matches.

To conclude, the lack of Mustafizur Rahman in the IPL and PSL cannot be attributed to a decline in form. Instead, it is caused by poor physical condition and a focus on the Bangladesh national team’s matches. For now, franchise cricket takes a back seat as Bangladesh prepares for crucial international fixtures.
