Hello and welcome to Kyro Sports‘ ISL Transfer Roundup. The Indian Super League concluded with ATK defeating Chennaiyan FC 3-1 in the final which was played behind closed doors at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa in March.
Despite the season being over, there are no shortages of transfer rumours and contract extensions surrounding the ISL franchises. Without further ado, let us look at a few important ISL transfer news which could probably have an impact in the upcoming season of the tournament.
#1 Kerala Blasters keen to sign Polish league’s top goalscorer
According to reports, Kerala Blasters are all set to sign former Atletico Bilbao striker, Igor Angulo for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. The former Spain Under-21 international, whose present contract with Polish club Gornik Zabrze is set to expire in June, is reportedly looking for a move elsewhere. Kerala Blasters are planning to rebuild under new boss Kibu Vicuna, who is interested in signing the 36-year-old forward to partner Bartholomew Ogbeche upfront.
Angulo is the current top goalscorer in the Polish league and has netted 11 times in 26 appearances for Gornik Zabrze in the present campaign. The Spaniard is a prolific striker with good physicality and has a shot accuracy of 96%. Besides Kerala Blasters, multiple clubs are interested in roping in Angulo. It is believed that Angulo will soon take a decision on his next destination.
#2 Bengaluru FC and three more ISL teams chasing Miku
Venezuela international, Miku Fedor is all set to make a sensational return to Indian football, with his current contract with Cypriot outfit Omonia Nicosia coming to an end. The prolific striker is in demand and several ISL outfits are hovering around him.
Besides his former employers Bengaluru FC, Miku is being chased by three other ISL clubs. Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa and Hyderabad FC are all keen on signing the striker, who is available on a free transfer. But Bengaluru FC will be keen on bringing back the 34-year-old to the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, with the Blues heavily relying on Sunil Chettri for goals in the recently-concluded 2019-20 season.
However, Hyderabad FC have an advantage when it comes to signing Miku. Albert Roca, who had introduced the striker to Indian football, is currently the manager of the Hyderabad outfit, and the 57-year-old will be keen to sign the Venezuelan to strengthen his team. Although FC Goa are still searching for Ferro Corominas’ replacement, Hyderabad FC are currently in the pole position to sign Miku.
#3 Nikhil Poojary extends his contract with Hyderabad FC
It has been confirmed that Nikhil Poojary has extended his stay at Hyderabad FC for three more seasons. The forward signed a new contract with HFC which will run until the end of the 2022-23 campaign. Poojary owns the distinction of appearing in all 18 games for the debutant ISL team in the 2019-20 season.
The 24-year-old operated both as a winger as well as a full-back for Hyderabad FC in the recently-concluded season. He played 1555 minutes, which was the highest for any HFC player in their debut ISL campaign. Poojary has been praised for his temperament by HFC manager, Albert Roca. He also started for the Indian national team in their historic goalless draw against Asian Cup champions Qatar in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in September last year.
