ICC, on Tuesday, released a press release informing that qualifiers for ICC Women’s World Cup and Under-19 world cup have been deferred.
The Qualifiers for ICC Women’s World cup was due to take place in Sri Lanka between 3 and 19 July 2020 while the pathway for U-19 world cup event 2022, the Europe qualifier was scheduled to be played between 24 and 30 July.
Committed to protect well-being of everyone
The International Cricket Council in a media release stated that the decision was taken after consultation with Members and with the relevant government and public health authorities.
“In light of the continuing travel restrictions, global health concerns and government and public health authority advice we have decided to postpone two further upcoming qualifying events due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier and the Europe qualifier to the U-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 have both been impacted,” said Chris Tetley, ICC head of events.
He added in his statement that the top priority at this crucial time of pandemic is to protect the well-being of players, coaches, officials, fans and the whole cricket community.
ICC Work with all members for further date
According to the news released by ICC on Tuesday, the governing body will work with all participating members to decide a tentative date.
The ICC chief of events added that both of the events which were postponed for now are important and it will work closely with everyone involved in these events to decide a further possible date.
“We will work in partnership with the Members to find an appropriate window to reschedule these events as soon as is safe and practical to do so. I would like to thank the Members for their cooperation and continued support.”
