Haas offers F1 test to McLaren’s F2 champion

Contesting in what can clearly be called an inclement season of sorts so far where they find themselves against just 21 points – and that’s about it- Haas haven’t quite relished racing at the highest annals of Grand Prix in Formula 1 as far as 2026 is concerned. But surely, they aren’t doing terrible in any which way with a 10 point advantage to the James Vowles-led Williams outfit; the British constructor finding themselves on P8, quite ahead of a clearly ailing Audi team that have managed just 2 points as on date.

There are talented teams that have fared far worse, to be honest, especially when one considers the rather insipid form of Haas. How’s that, but?

Think of Aston Martin. They’ve barely just opened their account with just a point against their name whilst the likes of Cadillac are yet to even score a point.

But that’s not all. The Esteban Ocon- 3 points so far- and Ollie Bearman- 18 points- powered team are perhaps happy to explore greener pastures as far as their imminent future in Motorsport’s top flight is concerned.

How so?

Well, apparently, Haas are in plans and currently deliberating giving an F1 run test to a noted talent currently competing in the F2 season.

So this leads us to the next big question. Which talent is on Haas’ radar and what is being planned?

Currently operating in the role of a reserve driver for McLaren, young Leonardo Fornaroli is being linked to a possible Haas-related F1 future in the nearabout future.

For what it’s worth, the forthcoming F1 test serves as a key evaluation test of the F2 driver in order to explore a possible future in the highest order of Grand Prix racing that there exists!

Having said the above, the following details with regard to the fast approaching Formula 1 test for young Leonardo is known-

What type of Car are we to expect: Leonardo Fornaroli will drive the Haas VF-25 (Haas’s 2025 car, which was in the running last year).

What’s to be the Location of the test: The soon-to-begin Test takes place at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Spain. Spain has for the longest time served as the testing ground for many a modern day F1 car and that’s been the destiny for decades altogether.

Are there other notable participants: Haas’s official reserve driver, Ryo Hirakawa, is also in attendance

What more do we know about Leonardo Fornaroli?

The December 2001 born Italian driver made his debut in Formula 2 back in the year 2024. He has had 4 wins from 27 race starts and actually got into competitive kart racing not before he turned 10.

The 2024 FIA F3 champion was the first champion to not win a single race in both his championship-winning campaign and his entire F3 career. He set 2 pole positions, 2 fastest laps and bagged 7 podiums and 153 points on the whole for the Trident team in FIA’ F3 world championship back in the year 2024.
