The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the sports fraternity heavily. Every cricket tournament has been postponed over the period. However, with the things improving, cricket boards are planning a road map to resume the action on the field again.
Recently, in a media release, Cricket West Indies (CWI) assured its fans that it has been consistently in touch with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for planning out a contingency for upcoming fixture with the later.
Cricket West Indies Ready to be quarantined
The West Indies CEO, Johnny Grave said that there have been positive ongoing dialogues between the two boards. He also added that West Indies team is ready to be quarantined for two weeks but with a facility to train outdoors.
“We fully expect the quarantine for two weeks, but within our discussions with the ECB we would expect to be in a facility that allows us to train outdoors, so we’re talking about cricket venues that have hotel accommodation on the site, and therefore the entire practice facility, as well as hotel accommodation, would be in a bio-secure environment,” Grave outlined in the media release.
CWI has announced squad of 30 members
By keeping in mind the safety and well being of players and staffs, Cricket West Indies has announced a squad comprising 30 members.
CWI CEO Johnny Grave, however, added that the squad is not official for the England Tour.
The list is announced to help CWI’s Cricket Operations and Medical Departments, who are working day and night to plan for the potential travel to the United Kingdom, as CWI needs to be aware of all home territories which players will embark and understand their respective current COVID-19 testing capabilities, as well as ensure that visas and relevant documentations are secured, added Grave.
