Lando Norris is taking no risks with his health ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix. The McLaren driver has been open about his cautious approach after past stomach problems at this circuit and in Brazil.
Speaking to the media, he kept it straightforward regarding his food. At this stage of the year, with the championship battle still intense and five races left, Norris is prioritising feeling strong and focused. No experimental local dishes, no chances with the water and just the same reliable routine that keeps him sharp on track.
“I’m pretty simple, so I try to avoid all of the funky foods. I keep sticking to pasta, I just stick to pasta and a bit of chicken every now and then.” Norris said. He goes further with water too. “Here [in Mexico], I don’t have any tap water. I brush my teeth with bottled water and all that stuff, so it is simple things.” he added
The caution comes from experience. “I’ve been ill here in the past and the same in Brazil, so I guess over time, things become a little more predictable, and you know what to avoid.” He added that being fussy with food helps, along with proper rest between the heavy travel and media demands of the late-season schedule.
Lando Norris targets strong finish as McLaren faces tough competition in 2026
Lando Norris has risen rapidly through the ranks ever since his debut. He became the youngest CIK-FIA KF World Champion in 2014, then dominated junior formulae with titles in MSA Formula (2015), Formula Renault Eurocup and NEC (2016), and the FIA European Formula 3 Championship (2017). McLaren signed him to its young driver programme and he made his Formula 1 debut with the team in 2019 at age 19.
In 2025 Norris secured the Drivers’ World Championship, becoming Britain’s 11th title winner and McLaren’s first since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. By the end of 2025 he had 13 Grand Prix wins, 49 podiums and 19 pole positions across roughly 170 starts, all with McLaren. His recent form is excellent and as defending champion, Norris sits sixth in the 2026 standings with 211 points after 18 rounds.
He has two wins (Hungary and the Netherlands), five podiums and three poles. McLaren has struggled for consistent front-running pace against Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull. He heads into the Mexico City Grand Prix looking to maximise points while the team works on car performance.
