“I Got Overwhelmed” Lauren Bell Shares Emotional Moment With Family After England’s Win Against South Africa in Semi Final 2

England’s fast bowler Lauren Bell played a pivotal role in propelling her team into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final, and she shared a heartfelt moment that quickly became one of the highlights of the night. After England’s impressive 40-run victory over South Africa in the second semi-final at The Oval, Bell was overcome with emotion while celebrating with her family in the stands. The 25-year-old also shone with the ball, wrapping up her spell with figures of 2/28 from four overs. Her crucial wickets of Suné Luus and Ayabonga Khaka were instrumental in halting South Africa’s chase, securing England’s spot in the title match against Australia at Lord’s.

The celebrations didn’t stop after the final ball; Bell dashed to her family near the boundary, embracing them with tears of joy streaming down her face. In her post-match interview, she reflected on the moment, expressing how her family has always been her biggest cheerleaders. She admitted to feeling “overwhelmed” after England’s journey to the final, as she said, “It’s massive. I got a bit overwhelmed. I guess we’ve had a lot of tough times, I guess, as an England team over the last few years. So yeah, it was just really special to get them that win, maybe not too stressful for them. Um, yeah, just overwhelmed really.”

England Rescue Themselves From 23/3 to 169/5 to Set-up Final Against Australia

England’s journey to the final was marked by an impressive turnaround with the bat, followed by a disciplined bowling performance that sealed the deal. Right from the start, South Africa’s new-ball duo, Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp, put England on the back foot. Ismail struck first, dismissing Amy Jones with her very first delivery, while Kapp sent Danni Wyatt-Hodge packing with a sharp delivery. With Alice Capsey also falling early, England found themselves in a tough spot at 23/3.

But then, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt made a stunning return from her calf injury. She smashed 75 runs off just 47 balls and teamed up with Heather Knight for a game-changing partnership of 133 runs for the fourth wicket. Knight added 58 runs from 47 balls, helping England recover to a solid 169/5 after 20 overs. Their partnership set a new record for the highest stand in a Women’s T20 World Cup knockout match.

South Africa started off steadily but lost their rhythm when captain Laura Wolvaardt was spectacularly caught by Sophie Ecclestone off Linsey Smith’s bowling. Tazmin Brits tried to rally with a score of 51, but regular wickets kept them from mounting a serious challenge. Charlie Dean took 2/31, while Bell dismissed Luus with a well-placed short ball and later clean bowled Khaka with a clever slower delivery towards the end of the innings. England’s sharp fielding was also crucial, with Ecclestone taking two fantastic catches and Danni Wyatt-Hodge executing a direct-hit run-out. South Africa ended their innings at 129/8, paving the way for England to reach their first Women’s T20 World Cup final in eight years, where they’ll face Australia at Lord’s.
