Ellyse Perry, who played her first international cricket in 2007 at the age of 16, missed a spot in playing XI of the T20 World Cup 2020 finals due to an untimely injury. She was forced to remain a spectator in a match where she should have involved in the action.
In a discussion with cricket.com.au, Ellyse opened up on the unfortunate and untimely injury that restricted her role to just as a viewer in the most watched women’s T20 World Cup match in history.
Getting regressive would not be justifiable
Perry, talking to the digital media of Cricket Australia said that the injury was very unfortunate and she would have loved to play the big final. But getting regressive on missing out the spot after the injury would not be justifiable as it was not just about her only.
“I don’t think that’s justifiable at all, to be honest. Personally it was poor timing and I would have loved to have played in the rest of the tournament, absolutely without a doubt,” said the women cricketer.
The 30-year-old further told that the momentous night of the final was not only more important than her, but more important than the team as well.
She believes that it was a massive moment for women’s cricket across the world and hoped that it will have a positive impact on the game for everyone involved in women’s cricket.
The final was like a fairy tale
The Australian player commenting on the audience size on that epoch-making night said that it was almost like a fairy tale.
“From spending more of the career in front of family and friends or with few media coverage to reaching a point where almost 90,000 spectators are watching you in the action in the ground is remarkable,” said Ellyse.
“Everyone loves a fairy tale in sport and for us as the Australian team, it was certainly that.
“And to share that with the Australian public and everyone who has supported us for so long, it made it a very special memory that will be hard to top for a long, long time to come,” Concluded Perry.
