Quinton de Kock, who was appointed as Proteas Skipper early this year succeeding Faf du Plesis, says he has eased into the South African captaincy in limited overs format.
So far, de cock, who has captained the Proteas side in 8 ODIs and taken his team home 4 times with one match abandoned, feels the South African T20 side is on the right track for this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
The South African skipper says he is taking things slowly and trying to learn more about the game.
“I took it pretty slowly, I am still trying to get a feel of how to go about things. I have learnt quite a bit and I didn’t do too badly,” he said in audio released by Cricket South Africa on Tuesday.
Defeating Australia 3-0 Was A Highlight
The left handed batsman believes a win over Power packed Kangaroos was special.
“The series against Australia … we had quite a young team and they had a powerhouse side, so for us to beat them 3-0 was a highlight.” Said proteas Skipper.
He further added, “It was more about taking it step-by-step, not just throwing out what I think straight away to the team. We are busy rebuilding as a limited overs team, especially ODIs. Twenty20 I think we know what is going on.”
Quinton de Kock Wants To Convert Good Starts
The South African team currently, depends upon de Kock’s batting across all the formats. The skipper, however, wants to improve his batting a little more. There was a time when he was not able to coverts his starts into big scores, especially in the test series against England.
“I want to get better, to start scoring big hundreds for the team; that is the most important thing to get going now.”
However, on the question regarding the scheduled West Indies tour, South African Skipper, said it’s just a matter of waiting to get the action resumed.
“I’m not sure what will happen, every country has their regulations they must adhere to. It is just a matter of waiting for this to go past and then we can get on with the game again,” De Kock said.
