Harry Kane has taken a noticeably quieter approach to the 2026 Ballon d’Or debate, even as Bayern Munich is in the contention for the prestigious honour amid some of the biggest names in the game.
While Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe have openly discussed their chances to win the prestigious honour, Kane has avoided campaigning for himself. With voting now closed, and the ceremony scheduled to take place on October 26, the England captain leader has maintained that his performance does the talking for himself.
Kane responds to Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mpabbe
Harry Kane was recently asked about the public confidence shown by both Yamal and Mbappe during the Ballon D’Or conversation. Rather than getting into a debate over who deserves the individual honour more, the Bayern striker said that every player is entitled to their own opinion.
Kane has repeatedly stressed that publicly promoting himself is simply not his style, and has insisted that he preferred how and what he delivers on the field. He said that the award has become more prominent particularly with all the social media hype.
The England international has produced 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England between August 2025 and July 2026. Not only this, but he has also guided Munich to the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
His 73 goals are the second highest by a player since the millennium era behind Lionel Messi’s 82 goals in 2011-12.
“I’ve never really liked talking too much about myself,” Kane was quoted as saying by Marca. “The Ballon d’Or is not in my hands. I’ve done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances,” he said according to Goal.
