What is Test Twenty format in Cricket? How will it be different from already-existing formats?

You’ve heard of T20s. And you’ve heard of Tests. Haven’t you? And you also know how testing both formats can be. But then what if someone told you about Test Twenty, a format that has neither been heard as on date and may actually pack a punch as cricket eventually does and should? While our initial reactions could be confusing, bewildering even, it’s rather interesting.

In an era where hearing pleasant pieces of news is about as rare as hearing some war ending on its own, thus ending the loss of lives, cricket is ready to roll out Test Twenty! You read that right and all’s right with already curious eyes that would further love to know what’s this all about.

Test Twenty Format to Launch in Sri Lanka, Set to Feature Cricketers from Age Group 13 to 21

Soon to be launched in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Test Twenty is all set to focus on cricketers from the age group of 13 to 21. It is primed to be held in the land of countless cricketing greats, like- Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Arjuna Ranatunga, Muralitharan, Jayawardene and Sangakkara, and hopefully Dinusha in the days to come.

Moreover, the tournament that’s all set to focus on 160 cricketers and is poised to begin from November 14 and shall end on 29, will see the games being divided into 4 Continental Teams.

Each team will comprise 20 boys and as many girls. Now, here’s where it gets different, or shall one say, catchy? While the boys and girls will play their separate games, don’t mix that up, their scores will be combined eventually to determine the winner.

Here’s the Test match context to the 20-a-side fold. Every single contest shall have no more than 80 overs, across four innings. And moreover, red and white balls – you’re reading this right- will be used in different sessions.

The objective here is to expose boys and girls to a new format altogether where they’re playing under one team, albeit girls playing versus girls and ditto for boys, with their stats clubbed to establish the winner in the end. The mix up of different balls, white and red, will help them adapt and adjust to the challenges and the changing vagaries of the game. So what do you reckon- just how interesting is this Test Twenty style of cricket that’ll begin in Sweet November.
