The novel Coronavirus has hit the entire country heavily but Maharashtra is the worst affected state with most number of cases.
In such hard times, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has requested Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to handover the ‘India’s Macca of Cricket’ Wankhede Stadium for turning it into quarantine centre.
Notably, Maharashtra is the worst affected state with most number of COVID-19 patients. With 1576 new cases in last 24 hours and 21468 active cases, the total number of cases reached to 29100 cases according to mygov corona dashboard.
MCA will extend its full support to BMC
In response to the request, MCA has decided to support the BMC and said that it will fully extend its support to the municipal corporation for defeating coronavirus, reported ANI.
“We have received a formal request from the BMC to handover the Wankhede as quarantine centre and the members have had a discussion where we have agreed to support them with facilities of MCA,” a source within MCA told ANI.
Stadium will used for asymptomatic patients
According to the ANI report, BMC has conveyed a message that the possession will be temporary under the Epidemic Act 1897. The municipal body also said that the stadium will be primarily used for emergency staff of the BMC but if required, asymptomatic COVID-19 patients can also be quarantined at the venue.
The Wankhede complex comprises the BCCI office, MCA Lounge, Garware Club House apart from the main stadium. The MCA Lounge is a banquet hall, while the Garware Club House has over 50 rooms and a few halls inside it.
