Indian cricket team has left for West Indies with a lot of speculations doing the rounds, and we’ve got a latest news on the trends of Virat vs Rohit Sharma.
Just before flying to the Windies Indian captain Virat Kohli has met the press and denied all the news of rifts between him and the vice-captain Rohit Sharma. He has also shared his opinion about Ravi Shastri as well before signing off.
The backstory
India’s shocking loss from the semi-final stage of World Cup 2019 raised a lot of eyebrows. Questions were asked about team selection, coach’s duty, the team management decisions, batting order and what not! Dressing room stories suggested a split between the captain and his deputy.
The news of the introduction of split captaincy in Indian cricket broke. Sharma was started to be considered as the limited-overs captain while Kohli continuing with the Test captaincy.
The possibility of Kohli being rested for the West Indies tour added more spices. There were reports about two camps inside the team led by Kohli and Rohit.
When Rohit Sharma unfollowed Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli on social media, everyone was certain about the problems going between the two living legends of Indian cricket.
All is well as said by Virat
But finally, the captain spoke and cleared the air. Indian skipper looked visibly irritated with whatever is going on. He mentioned that discussing personal lives are disrespectful.
He said, “In my opinion, it’s baffling. It’s absolutely ridiculous to read such stuff. I’ve been to few public events. Everyone comes up and says we have respect for you. And here we are feeding off lies and overlooking facts. We are turning a blind eye to all the good things that have happened and creating fantasies and scenarios in our heads, and want to accept that this is the truth.”
He added how all these stuff is not good for the team and it baffles and confuses everyone playing for the country. He ensured that everything is sorted among teammates and focus is to clinch victory in West Indies.
“Within the team, it’s there for everyone to see – the friendship and camaraderie. It’s baffling and ridiculous to read such stuff. It’s time we focus on taking Indian cricket forward and not on things that are not even there.”
He clarified his relationship with Rohit and said, “I have always praised Rohit at every opportunity because I believe he is that good. We have had no issues.
As I said it’s baffling. I don’t know who is benefitting with all these stories.
We are living, breathing, living and working towards taking Indian cricket to the top. And then people want to get some kind of pleasure in bringing it down.
I don’t understand how that works. You work hard for four years to bring a team from seven to one, and after four years what are we talking about.”
Kohli, when asked about Ravi Shastri’s coaching was full of praise about Ravi Bhai.
He said, “The CAC hasn’t contacted me yet. If they want my opinion, I’ll go and speak to them. With Ravi Bhai, we share a great camaraderie, and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven’t been contacted so far.
