Ruturaj Gaikwad remains confident about earning his way back into the Indian team, with the Chennai Super Kings opener keeping his focus firmly on scoring runs. Speaking to reporters, Gaikwad made it clear that he is not dwelling too much on selection and instead wants to concentrate on what he can control. “Very much confident. It is just about going back again, making runs again,” he said. He also stressed the importance of patience, adding, “Obviously, I have been making runs throughout these years now. So, it is just about staying consistent and waiting for my opportunity.”
Gaikwad was also asked about India’s upcoming matches and the much-discussed battle involving Rashid Khan and young batter Sooryavanshi. However, he admitted that he does not closely follow matches when he is not playing. “I haven’t thought about it much. When I don’t play, I usually don’t watch much,” he said. At the same time, he made it clear that his support for India remains unchanged: “Obviously, you want to support your country.” With the domestic season approaching, Gaikwad’s attention is now shifting towards his own cricket. “But, you know, some days I am busy practising as well. I have domestic tournaments coming as well…so yeah.” His immediate focus will be on domestic competitions, where consistent performances could help him push for another India opportunity.

Maharashtra team skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad is choosing not to look too far ahead as he eyes a possible return to India’s ODI setup. With the 2027 World Cup still a year away, the Chennai Super Kings captain says his focus is firmly on the present and on making the most of the opportunities in front of him.
When asked about his World Cup ambitions, Gaikwad said, “That is too far (the World Cup). I am looking forward for today. World Cup is next year. It is, I mean, just like a normal human being, it is just about going in and about each and every day. There are a lot of various tournaments that happen in a span of one year.” He added, “Ranji Trophy, then domestic, international, IPL, a lot of things. So, if I just put all things around and sit down and answer about everything now, it will be very tough. But it is just about staying in the present, following the process. And just looking to enjoy whatever time I will be there.”
The approach has reflected Gaikwad’s desire to let his performances do the talking rather than get caught up in long-term predictions. After representing India in nine ODIs, he will now look to build consistency through domestic cricket and use those performances to strengthen his case for another opportunity at the international level.
