Shreyas Iyer Captaincy Record: From IPL Success to India Leadership

Shreyas Iyerโ€™s appointment as Indiaโ€™s new T20I captain reflects a leadership journey built on consistent results and proven success. Over the years, he has emerged as one of the most effective captains in Indian cricket, guiding teams through different phases and delivering strong performances under pressure. From reviving struggling franchises to winning major titles, Iyer has steadily strengthened his reputation as a leader. His captaincy record, combined with his ability to inspire teams in high-stakes tournaments, has now earned him the responsibility of leading India in the shortest format.

The chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar expressed his faith in Iyer as captain as he said, “With regards to Shreyas, obviously we’ve seen what he’s done over the last few years, leading different franchises. He’s won one and reached finals as well, and probably had a tougher season this year after a great start. So we’ve seen everything that a captain possibly can.”

The move comes after several successful campaigns across franchise and domestic cricket. Iyer has repeatedly shown an ability to build competitive teams and produce results. Whether taking charge during difficult situations or leading title-winning squads, he has demonstrated calm decision-making and tactical awareness. Those qualities have become key factors behind his rise to the national leadership role.
