Juventus reached within touching distance of winning yet another Scudetto after their recent 2-1 win over Lazio. The defending Serie A champions currently hold an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
The Bianconeri need just two more wins to all but secure yet another league title, starting with their match against Udinese this week.
There’s also a little agenda of the meeting between high-flyers AC Milan and Sassuolo, and that’s just about scratching the surface when it comes of matches in gameweek 35 of Serie A.
With that said, let’s quickly get into the thick of the action, and preview the upcoming round of matches in the Italian top-flight.
Atalanta vs Bologna (Prediction: 3-1)
Kicking off this week’s action will be Atalanta and Bologna at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Tuesday night. The hosts played out a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona recently, and are still in third place on the standings.
Bologna, meanwhile, come into this fixture on the back of a 1-5 drubbing at the hands of AC Milan and judging by recent form, we expect Atalanta to make light work of the visitors and continue their push for Champions League football.
Sassuolo vs AC Milan (Prediction: 1-2)
Another mouth-watering encounter on Tuesday night will see the Rossoneri travel to Mapei Stadium to take on Sassuolo. Both teams have been in excellent form and hence, this match has the makings of a Serie A classic.
The home team are currently in eighth place, eight points behind their adversaries of this week. Sassuolo played out a 1-1 draw with Cagliari in gameweek 34, while Milan demolished Bologna 5-1, which is why we expect the visitors to have a slight edge over the hosts.
Parma vs Napoli (Prediction: 0-1)
Sixth-placed Napoli will take on 14th-placed Parma on Wednesday night at the Ennio Tardini.
The Partenopei have been in good form recently and after their 2-1 win over Udinese, Napoli will be expected to see out Parma as well, who suffered a 2-3 defeat lately, at the hands of Sampdoria.
Judging by the recent exploits of both teams, we’ll be putting our money on Gennaro Gattuso’s men to take home all three points.
Torino vs Hellas Verona (Prediction: 1-1)
The meeting between Torino and Hellas Verona will be little more than an exhibition fixture, given their position on the Serie A standings.
The home side are in 15th place, after having endured a torrid season so far, but they seem to have done enough to survive relegation. Verona, meanwhile, are in ninth place, with a huge gap to bridge between themselves and the Europa League places.
That being said, with little more than pride to play for, we expect Torino and Hellas Verona to share the spoils at the Olimpico di Torino.
SPAL vs AS Roma (Prediction: 1-2)
After losing out to Brescia lately, SPAL’s relegation to the Serie B was confirmed. It has been coming for a long time now, given the fact that Luigi di Biagio’s men have won just five games all season and losing a staggering 24 matches.
On the other hand, AS Roma are in fifth place on the Serie A table, after having played out a 2-2 draw with Inter Milan lately, as they continue to chase Europa League football.
That being said, the meeting between these two sides should be an easy game for the visitors, and we fancy them to take home all three points.
Lecce vs Brescia (Prediction: 1-1)
The battle of two relegation-threatened teams, Lecce and Brescia’s game at the Via del Mare could have a huge say in the future of both these teams in Serie A. Numerically, Brescia can still stay in the Italian top-flight, but they will have to overcome Lecce first.
Diego Lopez oversaw a 2-1 win over SPAL recently, and he will be hoping to capitalize on Lecce’s recent struggles. The home side suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Genoa and are subsequently four points adrift of safety with as many matches remaining.
Inter Milan vs Fiorentina (Prediction: 2-0)
Any slim hopes that Inter Milan had of catching Juventus were dented by their recent 2-2 draw with AS Roma. Next on the agenda is a home game against Fiorentina for the Nerazzurri, which they will be expected to win.
La Viola have had a disappointing 2019-20 Serie A season up until now, but they come into this fixture on the back of a two-match winning run.
Fiorentina ousted Torino by a 2-0 margin recently and have subsequently risen to 12th place on the table, but their trip to the San Siro will be a stern test.
Sampdoria vs Genoa (Prediction: 1-0)
Sampdoria defeated Parma in a five-goal thriller on Sunday to leapfrog them into 13th place, but that being said, all of the remaining games for Claudio Ranieri’s team will be of little importance now.
By stark contrast, Genoa have it all to fight for, heading into the final stretch of fixtures with their Serie A future in their own hands.
The Rossoblu did defeat Lecce to open up a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation-threatened club, but a late collapse could see them drop further, and therefore, Genoa will be planning of ways to down Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris.
Udinese vs Juventus (Prediction: 2-3)
Juventus have been hardly impressive this season, their defensive frailties under Maurizio Sarri have been there for all to see, but the Old Lady still have an eight-point lead to boast of.
After winning against Lazio, the league leaders will look to take a major step towards retaining the Serie A title with a win over struggling Udinese.
Luca Gotti’s men are winless in their past three games and will have to endure another difficult night against Juventus on Thursday.
Lazio vs Cagliari (Prediction: 1-1)
Injuries have really hampered Lazio’s title chase ever since Serie A resumed after the coronavirus-enforced break, and now their goal will be to secure Champions League football for next season.
For that, the Eagles will have to overcome a strong Cagliari side who are in 11th place on the Serie A table, after having played a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo. Judging by the recent form of both these teams, we expect a stalemate in this fixture.
