Tiger Shroff’s much-anticipated Durand Cup debut with Mumbay FC has been postponed after a last-minute professional commitment ruled him out of the club’s trip to Shillong. Shroff had been named in Mumbay FC’s Durand Cup squad on July 28, with co-owner Zoheb Amrani previously suggesting that the actor could feature in one of the team’s group-stage matches in Shillong. However, the actor confirmed that he will not be available for the match against Nongkseh SS & CC. In a video shared by Mumbay FC, Shroff said, “Really, really unfortunate, but a work commitment has come up at the last moment, so I won’t be able to make it to Shillong for the Durand Cup.”
Despite missing the opportunity to play, Shroff stressed that he remains committed to supporting the club and its young players. “I’m going to do everything in my power to support you guys to the best of my capability,” he said. He added, “There’s so much young talent, and with the right support and opportunities, I truly believe Indian football can do wonders.” Shroff has been associated with Mumbay FC since its launch in 2024 and has regularly trained and played with the club in the Mumbai District League. His withdrawal means his professional Durand Cup debut will have to wait.
Shillong Lajong thrash Mumbay FC 5-0 in Durand Cup
Mumbay FC endured a heavy defeat in their latest Durand Cup 2026 outing, going down 5-0 to Shillong Lajong FC in a Group E clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. The result was a major setback for the Durand Cup debutants, who struggled to contain a dominant Shillong Lajong side throughout the match. Everbrightson Sana was the standout performer, scoring twice as Shillong Lajong took control of the contest and eventually secured a comprehensive victory.
The emphatic win moved Shillong Lajong to the top of Group E and underlined their strong position in the competition. For Mumbay FC, however, the defeat highlighted the challenge facing the club in its first appearance in the prestigious tournament. The Mumbai-based side is competing alongside Shillong Lajong, Langsning FC and Nongkseh SS&CC in Group E.
Mumbay FC’s campaign has also attracted considerable attention because Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was named in their squad and had been expected to potentially make his Durand Cup debut. However, Shroff later confirmed that a late work commitment would prevent him from travelling to Shillong. His absence means the club’s tournament campaign will now have to take centre stage without the star attraction.
