Players who are playing in IPL since 2008

The IPL was born out of an experiment but went on to become an entire phenomenon. From IPL 2008 to IPL 2026, there have been a few who have managed to stay relevant through auctions, bad patches, and revamps of their teams. These individuals did not survive but thrived, changing gears and adapting along the way as the league progressed in terms of its focus towards big hitting and stats-based strategy. Their career stories tell the story of the IPL as a franchise in itself.

There have been few instances of continuity throughout the years. Players frequently get refreshed. Careers often come to a screeching halt. But there is one thing that remains consistent despite all the changes – a bunch of players who keep coming back either with new teams or the same old colours.

MS Dhoni

Dhoni is a legend who set the tone for CSK right from the very beginning. Other than the Pune stint, he was the mainstay of the team. Dhoni’s team clinched the trophy in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. He had made it a ritual for his team to win the final match. The CSK identity grew around him.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma began playing for Deccan Chargers and was a part of the successful side in the year 2009. Then the Mumbai Indians changed his destiny by adding him to their squad. Rohit Sharma has won the IPL trophy under the banner of MI in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and also 2020. His transition from batter to leader defined his IPL story.

Virat Kohli

Since 2008, Virat Kohli has been associated with RCB. He became the top run scorer in the league and recorded an excellent 2016 season. It had taken years for him to get the title because he lost the league twice in the year 2009 and once in 2011, but finally in 2025 he won the IPL title with RCB. That win completed a long journey built on consistency and belief.

Ravindra Jadeja

The start of Ravindra Jadeja’s IPL career was with Rajasthan Royals, where he clinched the very first season title in 2008. However, after that, Jadeja played an extremely crucial part in helping CSK win three more titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023. The 2023 final finish underlined his big-match impact.

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey might have changed from one franchise to another, but has managed to keep himself consistent in all seasons. Manish’s career peak happened in 2014 when he played a crucial innings and helped his team KKR win the tournament. Previously, he had hit a century in 2009. Despite team changes, he maintained continuity.

This is a unique combination of players. Some played in each season while others took a break for some time, yet all started in 2008 and have been playing up to 2026. They represent the evolution of the league, which thrives based on more than just ability.
