With 8 Grand Prix wins Kimi Antonelli of the Mercedes team has really blazed a trail for others to follow. In a season where the rules and regulations have posed a stringent challenge for drivers in terms of car handling, Kimi doesn’t seem to have much of trouble in terms of pure adaptability to the current generation cars.
It’s one thing to do well when you’re young because you have a sense of newness and refreshing approach to the Sport at your hand.
But it’s something quite unique and different altogether when you approach a contest as imposing and even scarring as Formula 1 can be with the skill and adaptability of a driver who is just in his second year.
With 8 Grand Prix victories, Kimi has not only beaten the likes of George Russell, his very own Mercedes teammate, and not to forget a Senior at the team, he is clearly giving a new direction to a sport, which often searches for a sense of newness.
A simple uncomplicated driver, who chooses to focus on the task at hand, rather than engaging with theatrics or shenanigans once the visor come down, Kimi Antonelli seems like the force to whom future of the sport belongs. Can he take his maiden title this year? Can he lord with confidence and familiar panache in what’s to come ahead? For someone who’s pretty much approaching a 100 point lead in the season at the moment and is the top draw of the grid, the 2026 season is Antonelli’s to lose.

The man who dominated the Madring in the event’s maiden appearance and won from the far back of the grid, Antonelli, all of 20, ensures he doesn’t get nervous and calmly gets the job done. But there’s also a word of caution that former champion Nico Rosberg have for the rising talent:
“I know how my head started to play games with me when I was the big favourite.”
He was speaking on when he was the favourite to win back in 2016, a season where he did eventually become champion.
But the German Finnish driver also added: “When you’re really the big favourite, like he is now, it’s like, ‘oh my God, this is this is actually mine for the taking. I better not mess this up, I better not make these make stupid mistakes and unnecessary mistakes now because the World Championship is there for the taking’.
“As soon as those kind of thoughts come in, you start to get scared and you really start to get fear that you’re going to mess something up completely unnecessarily because it remains that driving an F1 car and being at the front of the pack, of course, is one of the hardest things in the world to do.”
