Harry Kane, captain of the England football team, has become one of the names discussed for the award of 2026 Ballon d’Or. He has enjoyed the best form of his career. With a total of 73 goals scored last season, Harry Kane’ is a leading candidate for this prestigious award. Kane is happy to be in contention for this award but understands, however, that the outcome is beyond him.
“Of course, now it is out of my hands, it is down to the voters and the people who decide it. The season I had was my best season by far, and we’ll have to wait and see.” Kane also made it clear that he is simply happy to be in contention for the award, adding, “I’m happy that I am in contention, so we will have to wait and see.” After such a huge season, the England captain will now have to wait for the voters to decide whether his remarkable campaign is enough to finally bring him the Ballon d’Or.
“It was a rational decision”: Vincent Kompany explains Harry Kane, Michael Olise benching
Vincent Kompany has defended his decision to leave Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the bench for Bayern Munich’s 0-0 draw against Schalke. The move surprised many fans, especially with Bayern dropping points in their second Bundesliga game of the season. Both Kane and Olise were brought on around the hour mark, but Bayern still could not find a breakthrough as Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius produced a strong performance.
Kompany explained that the decision was mainly about managing the players’ workload after their late return from vacation and the energy they spent in the DFB-Pokal win over Osnabrück. “That was simply a rational decision. They came back very, very late from vacation. The game against Osnabrück cost them a lot of energy. The priority was to have them available for that because it was a Pokal game.” He added that Kane and Olise were still not ready to handle a full workload. “They’re still not in the right condition to be under full workload. It was a rational decision.” Despite the explanation, the rotation ultimately came at a cost, with Bayern failing to score in the league for the first time in a long time.
