Manchester City vs Liverpool
Time: 10 PM IST, 4.30 PM GMT (Sunday)
Venue: Etihad Stadium, Manchester

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will host Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday in unfamiliar conditions. The contests between the two teams in recent times have mostly been top-of-the-table clashes.

However, given the unpredictable nature of the Premier League this season, second-placed Reds will travel to the Etihad to play 10th-placed Manchester City on Sunday.

The two teams have a five-point gap between them at the moment but it could be narrowed down to two if the hosts win. Liverpool, who have played a game more than Manchester City, will eye a victory to get back to the top of the Premier League table, dislodging unlikely league leaders Southampton.

Manchester City vs Liverpool: Recent form

Manchester City: W-W-W-D-L (Recent first)

Liverpool: W-W-W-W-W (Recent first)

Manchester City come into the game in good form after a slow start to their Premier League campaign. They have won against Olympiacos (3-0), Sheffield United (0-1), Marseille (0-3) and Porto (3-1) in their last five outings in all competitions, with their only draw coming against West Ham (1-1).

Liverpool have also found their stride after the disastrous 7-2 loss at Aston Villa. The Reds have not lost a single game since that debacle, despite missing key defender Virgil van Djik.

They have won five games on the trot in all competitions – Atalanta (0-5), West Ham United (2-1), Midtjylland (2-0), Sheffield United (2-1), and AFC Ajax (0-1).

Manchester City vs Liverpool: Head-to-head record

Total Matches: 215

Liverpool wins: 105

Draws: 53

Manchester City faced Liverpool for the first time in a League Division Two game in 1893. The Reds won the first fixture with a 0-1 scoreline. However, in recent times, Manchester City have often come out on top against Liverpool.

The Citizens have lost just one of their last five meetings with the Reds, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 4-0 rout of Liverpool after the Merseyside giants were crowned the Premier League champions last season.

Liverpool

The Reds will miss Thiago Alacantara due to the knee injury he sustained in the Merseyside derby. Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also sit out the game due to injuries. Digo Jota is expected to play.

Manchester City vs Liverpool: Prediction

The nature of this fixture is unpredictable, to say the least. While teams have won by big margins at times, some matches have been as close as they can get. We expect an entertaining clash at the Etihad on Sunday.
