Manav Suthar announced himself on the biggest stage with a performance that instantly entered India’s Test record books. The 23-year-old left-arm spinner from Rajasthan produced a superb spell of 6 for 33 against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, becoming only the 10th Indian bowler to claim a five-wicket haul on Test debut. His effort helped India secure an innings-and-300-run victory inside three days and underlined the country’s depth in spin bowling. Manav Suthar’s historic debut has now placed him alongside some of India’s most memorable Test newcomers.
Reflecting on the performance, Suthar added that he initially trusted his stock delivery to understand the surface, as he said, “Once I understood that the wicket was a little slow and required some variation in pace, I started making those adjustments. But the main idea was always to make my stock ball as effective as possible.”
The debutant said he relied mainly on his stock ball early on to understand the surface before making small pace adjustments. He described receiving the second new ball as a matter of pride and said the biggest lesson from the match was the value of consistency. According to Suthar, Test cricket rewards patience and repeated accuracy in the same areas.
