Liverpool Transfers: Who should the Reds sign between Timo Werner and Adama Traore?

Two wins away from winning the Premier League, having lost just one league fixture all season, Liverpool have been in phenomenal form in the present campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been the best team in England by some distance, but how can someone improve something which is already so good?

It typifies why the Reds decided against adding any big-name players ahead of the season, despite missing out on the Premier League title by just a solitary point last term. But lightning doesn’t strike twice, does it?

Liverpool have been linked with various names in recent times, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore and RB Leipzig star Timo Werner. But which player out of the two would actually take the quality of the star-studded squad to the next level?

In this article, we will try to analyse who between Timo Werner and Adama Traore would be a better fit for the Premier League champions-elect.

Adama Traore

The Wolves winger has every quality a modern coach could ask for in a player. He’s incredibly fast, can dribble past opponents with ease, is difficult to shake away from the ball, and has got an eye for goal.

Adama Traore has had a breakthrough season of sorts this term, and he has already been linked with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has recorded six goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season. Adama Traore joined Wolves from Middlesbrough in 2018 for around £18 million but would now cost thrice that figure if any team were to sign him.

Money is not the problem for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but given they already have the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, Traore would be no more than an expensive benchwarmer.

Moreover, the former Aston Villa man only has one decent season under his belt and even if the Reds were to sign him, they should probably wait to see if he is actually that good a player or just a one-season wonder.

Timo Werner

The German striker has been linked with Liverpool for quite some time now. On many occasions, Timo Werner has publicly expressed his fondness towards a switch to Merseyside.

When RB Leipzig defeated Tottenham in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash earlier this year, their marquee forward was questioned whether he was thinking of taking the next step in his career.

Werner’s response was nothing short of a melody for the Anfield faithful.

“I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world. When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud. It’s a pleasure but I know that Liverpool have a lot of good players and I have to improve myself, to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”

Timo Werner

The 24-year-old has scored 30 goals across all competitions this season, and his future remains a big talking point. As per recent reports, Jurgen Klopp recently held a meeting with Werner.

Who should Liverpool pick between Werner and Traore?

Whoever walks in through the door at Melwood will have to be patient, given the brilliance of Liverpool’s triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. But taking all things into consideration, the Reds don’t have to make a huge outlay on either of those players.

Werner has a reported release clause of £52 million, meaning he will cost marginally less than Traore. But the latter has valuable experience of playing in the Premier League, which could tilt the tide in his favour.

The German is no slouch either, and as per the author’s opinion, he would be the ideal player for Liverpool as Werner has been at the top for a few years now, unlike Traore, who has broken through just this season.
