There are sensations in the great game of Football and then there are young ones who stir the world and shake it up giving a real glance into their talent. One such name, rare as they come, is a certain Lamine Yamal. The once rising but now prominent Spanish goal striking talent has caught the imagination of both young followers of the game and the die hard original followers who’ve been connected with the sport like a child to the mommy’s intrepid, never ending attention.
And what the avid youngster with smashing skills has said recently has generated headlines, perhaps understandably so.
Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal has offered a thought-provoking perspective on one of the most prestigious salutations or decorations in the great game of football should perhaps recognise. But maybe actually doesn’t!
He was talking about most prestigious Ballon d’Or, for which Yamal himself in running in hot contention.
When he was recently candidly interacting with a media outlet by the name of M+ Deportes, the amazingly talented football exponent ended up offering an insight that belies his young age.
Lamine Yamal was of the opinion to the publication that while winning major trophies and awards is something brilliant, individual merits and achievements the should not automatically determine who is crowned the world’s best player.

Now, what a mature statement that is, is it not?
We ought to remember, Yamal, who’s still a teenager said this.
Ever a team player, Yamal said that while winning the UEFA Champions League is a feat that points to of collective excellence, the same effort shouldn’t be restricted to one’s individual superiority.
And if you aren’t impressed already by what the noted right winger said, perhaps there’s merit in delving into more details of what he expressed, rather remarkably so-
“Winning the Champions League means you are the best team. That doesn’t automatically mean you are the best player in the world,” he said.
In a sport where math is but everything, can a footballer be known and henceforth, recognised for his ingenuity, sheer skill, the talent to create goal scoring opportunities as well?
For where he stands, it very much seems that the mighty fine honour that is ghe Ballon d’Or should celebrate the player who creates an influence in the sport and epitomises and inspires values and contributes to values such as quality, creativity and the ability to captivate audiences.
What a truly egalitarian and forward looking approach that is to reward individual talent in a team based sport.
