As La Liga gameweek 32 came to an end, Real Madrid moved ahead of Barcelona in the title race after the Catalan side dropped two crucial points against Celta Vigo.
While the race for the European places is still well and truly on, Mallorca, Espanyol and Leganes are favourites to be relegated as the gap increased between the trio and the other teams just above the drop zone.
La Liga gameweek 32 results:
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our La Liga Team of the Week for game week 31. The formation used is 4-2-4.
Goalkeeper: Aitor Fernandez (Levante)
Aitor Fernandez’s team-mates might have scored the goals in an impressive 4-2 victory over Real Betis, but the outcome of the game could have been different if the shot-stopper was not in his prime form.
The Spaniard made the highest number of saves  (6) as well as the highest number of recoveries (10) in the game. He denied the likes of Sergio Canales and Juanmi from staging any sort of a comeback against Levante.
Right-back: Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid)
The England international has surprised everyone with his fluent displays in his first season in Spain, following his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Atletico Madrid last summer. Kieran Trippier provided an assist and managed the highest number of interceptions in the game (2) against Alaves, with Los Rojiblancos winning the contest 2-1.
Centre-back: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
The Real Madrid captain is looking like a man on a mission to steer his team to the La Liga title for the first time in three seasons. Sergio Ramos was rock-solid at the back again as he didn’t give an inch of space to the Espanyol attackers, with Real Madrid winning the fixture 1-0. The Spaniard helped Los Blancos keep a clean sheet and managed to string together 70 passes – the second-highest in the game after Toni Kroos.
Centre-back: Kiko Olivas (Real Valladolid)
Kiko Olivas is one of the reasons behind Real Valladolid being on the verge of avoiding relegation from La Liga this season. The former Girona man was immense against Sevilla as he scored a goal in the 1-1 draw, besides managing the highest number of interceptions in the game (4).
Left-back: Marcelo (Real Madrid)
In a gameweek where there was no clear winner for the left-back spot, we have decided to go with Marcelo. The Brazilian full-back, who likes to attack and create chances for his team-mates, was mostly nullified by the opposition defence in a tight game against Espanyol. However, Marcelo ensured that his defensive performance was top-notch as he made the highest number of tackles (3) and the second-highest number of interceptions (3) as Real Madrid won 1-0.
Central midfielder: Casemiro (Real Madrid)
Casemiro is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world at the moment. The Brazilian is a consistent performer and shields the back four of Real Madrid with his tough tackling and strong positioning. In a game where Los Blancos needed a win to take a two-point lead over Barcelona, Casemiro didn’t disappoint as he scored the only goal of the match against Espanyol. He also made the highest number of interceptions for his team (3).
Central midfielder: Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid)
Saul Niguez is one of the stalwarts of the Atletico Madrid side and has often been linked with a bigger club, owing to his impressive performances. The Spanish international, who is very versatile, was at his best in Los Rojiblancos’ 2-1 win over Alaves. He scored the opening goal of the game and also managed the third-highest number of passes (71) and take-ons (2) in the fixture.
Right-wing: Ruben Rochina (Levante)
Ruben Rochina, who is one of the most consistent players for Levante, was in fine form against a strong Real Betis side as he scored a goal and set up another. Levante won the match 4-2 and remain within touching distance of breaking into the top half of the La Liga table.
Left-wing: Enis Bardhi (Levante)
Joining Ruben Rochina on the opposite wing in our La Liga Team of the Week is his Levante team-mate and Macedonian international Enis Bardhi. The winger, who has been contributing significantly in the team’s fight against relegation every season for the past three years, scored a goal in the 4-2 win over Real Betis.
Striker: Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
The Uruguayan hitman has been a talisman for Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi in recent years. Luis Suarez didn’t disappoint against Celta Vigo as he scored a brace in the 2-2 draw. Despite an injury-riddled season, the former Liverpool star has still managed to score 13 goals and provide eight assists in La Liga in the present campaign.
Striker: Enric Gallego (Osasuna)
Enric Gallego, who is on loan at Osasuna from Getafe, netted a brace as the Pamplona-based club edged out Leganes 2-1. It was Gallego’s first goals for Osasuna, who moved up to 11th place on the La Liga table.
