Liverpool have won the Premier League, Bayern Munich were crowned champions of the Bundesliga recently, and Juventus have opened up a four-point gap at the top of the Serie A table.
Meanwhile, in La Liga, fans are getting to witness the most exciting title chase in recent history as Real Madrid and Barcelona (of course it had to be those two behemoths) are tied on 68 points after 31 matches.
The title race, competition for European places and the crunch to avoid relegation will go down to the wire in La Liga, and the action continues this weekend with gameweek 32.
With that said, let’s take a look at all the upcoming games in this week’s round of fixtures in La Liga.
Sevilla vs Real Valladolid (Prediction: 2-1)
Sevilla have got some ground to make up as they’ve fallen to fourth place in the table, on the back of their recent 2-2 draw away to Villarreal. Next up for Julen Lopetegui’s men is a home game against Real Valladolid.
The Ronaldo Nazario owned club shared the spoils with Getafe post a 1-1 draw in midweek, and they are 15th on the standings subsequently. Given the recent struggles of both teams, we expect a low-scoring game although Sevilla should be able to nick this one.
Athletic Club vs Mallorca (Prediction: 2-0)
After a narrow 1-0 loss at the hands of Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao will welcome relegation-threatened Mallorca to San Mames, hoping to rise up from 10th in the standings.
On the other hand, Mallorca suffered a 0-2 reverse away to Real Madrid, and are struggling to get themselves out of 18th place. The match against Bilbao is of paramount importance for the visitors because time is running out for them.
Celta Vigo vs Barcelona (Prediction: 1-2)
16th-placed Celta will host second-placed Barcelona on Saturday evening, although the visitors are obviously favourites for this game.
Barcelona cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage in La Liga, lately, the have been winning games, but without conviction, which is a real sign of danger. For the home side, it’s all about picking up as many points as possible to finish farther away from the drop zone.
Celta have found some sort of form in their previous three games, and could well spring up a surprise or two, given they will be at home.
Osasuna vs Leganes (Prediction: 2-0)
Mallorca’s defeat against Real Madrid means Leganes can still leapfrog them out of the relegation places if they can manage to beat Osasuna at El Sadar on Saturday night.
The hosts got back to winning ways with a recent 1-0 win over Alaves, although they are still in 11th on the standings. Leganes meanwhile played out a 0-0 stalemate with Granada in mid-week and will hope for a similar outcome in their next outing.
Atletico Madrid vs Alaves (Prediction: 1-0)
Diego Simeone’s men are back on track, given their recent upturn in fortunes. Their most recent win over Levante helped Los Rojiblancos rise into third place on the standings.
Next up, is a home game against a struggling Alaves side, who were beaten by Osasuna lately. The visitors are hence 14th in the league table, however, a late collapse could see their status as a La Liga come into danger.
Levante vs Real Betis (Prediction: 1-1)
On the back of their recent defeat to Atletico Madrid, Levante are 12th in the table but will face an easier outing in their next home game against Real Betis, who are just one point behind the hosts in 13th place.
Both these teams have been inconsistent of late, although the visitor did win their mid-week game against Espanyol, which would give Betis some confidence when they travel to Estadio Camilo Cano on Sunday evening.
Villarreal vs Valencia (Prediction: 2-1)
The marquee fixture of gameweek 32 will see Villarreal play hosts to Valencia at El Madrigal on Sunday night. The Yellow Submarine played out a draw against Sevilla in mid-week and as a consequence, they are now sixth in the standings.
On the other hand, Valencia suffered a 0-1 defeat away to Eibar, which left them two points behind Villareal, in eighth place.
The result of this match could have an impact on European ambitions of both these sides, although the home side have been more consistent lately, which could give them a psychological edge heading into this fixture.
Granada vs Eibar (Prediction: 0-0)
Granada played out a 0-0 draw with Leganes in mid-week and we expect a similarly tight game when they welcome Eibar to Los Carmenes in gameweek 32 of La Liga.
The home side are currently in ninth place on the standings, albeit their adversaries of this weekend are in 17th place, despite registering a 1-0 win over Valencia recently.
Eibar are just one spot above relegation places and will need to repeat their heroics of midweek a couple more times to avoid falling any further.
Espanyol vs Real Madrid (Prediction: 1-3)
Talk about two teams, on completely opposite spectrums, Real Madrid who have won all of their games since La Liga’s restart will travel to Cornella El-Prat to face Espanyol, who are currently at the foot of the table.
Zinedine Zidane’s men can expect a slightly easier outing on Sunday night given the home side’s struggles of late. While Madrid dispatched Mallorca 2-0 in midweek, Espanyol fell prey to a narrow defeat at the hands of Real Betis.
Taking into consideration the recent form of both these sides, Los Blancos should travel back home with all three points in their bag.
Getafe vs Real Sociedad (Prediction: 1-1)
Up until now, both Real Sociedad and Getafe were exceeding expectations in La Liga this season, however, they’ve each struggled post the COVID-19 enforced break.
Getafe the hosts of Monday night’s game have lost one and drawn three of their four matches since the restart, and have fallen to fifth on the standings subsequently.
Sociedad for their part have also won just one during that period, having drawn one and losing two games the latest of which came against Real Madrid in mid-week.
That being said, the match between these two teams in gameweek 32 should be a cracking one, which could have a huge impact on each of their European ambitions of next season.
