India’s latest cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is gearing up for an exciting overseas tour, but there’s a unique twist to his international debut. The 15-year-old batter from Bihar, who just received his first senior call-up for India, will have a separate changing room during the upcoming T20I series in England. This precaution is part of the safeguarding regulations in place for the tour.
Both the ICC and the ECB have rules that, “Sooryavanshi will be permitted in the India dressing room during the game and can attend team talks, with the restriction only applying when he is getting changed before and after each match.”
Additionally, the BCCI has given the green light for his parents to accompany him. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained that this decision aims to help the young talent adjust to the senior team atmosphere and ensure he has the support he needs during the tour.
In the meantime, similar safety protocols are set to be in place for India’s two T20 matches against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28. Team officials have already been briefed on what’s needed. It’s been reported that separate facilities have been organized to meet local regulations, all while ensuring that Sooryavanshi stays fully connected with the team during their cricketing activities.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Recent Success on Big Stages
The special arrangements come at a time when Sooryavanshi is really making waves. His performances in 2026 have caught everyone’s eye, not just because he’s young, but also due to the high-stakes moments in which they’ve occurred. Earlier this year, he lit up the Under-19 World Cup final against England with a stunning 175 off just 80 balls. Following that, he played a pivotal role for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, scoring 97 in the Eliminator and finishing as the tournament’s top run-scorer with a whopping 776 runs. He even shattered Chris Gayle’s long-held record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, smashing 72 sixes.
His latest fireworks came during the India A tri-series final against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla, where the left-hander unleashed a blistering 94 off just 29 balls, helping India A set a massive total of 377/9 and clinching a 66-run victory. This explosive innings followed closely after he set the record for the fastest List A fifty, reaching that milestone in a mere 11 balls.
India begin their tour with two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28. After that, the team will head to England for five T20Is in Chester-le-Street (July 1), Manchester (July 4), Nottingham (July 7), Bristol (July 9), and Southampton (July 11). If Sooryavanshi gets the nod, he won’t just be making history; he’ll also be continuing a season that has already marked him as one of cricket’s most exciting young stars.
