“I Take Full Responsibility”: Lewis Hamilton Reflects on Ferrari’s Singapore GP Setback

Lewis Hamilton has taken full ownership of a difficult afternoon in Singapore, issuing a clear and humble apology to Ferrari after a strategy call that ultimately cost him valuable points. The seven-time world champion finished sixth in a race that had promised far more, and he made no attempt to shift the blame. In a statement released shortly after the chequered flag, Hamilton described the day as a painful lesson. He admitted that the decision to override the team’s preferred approach was his alone.

“I take full responsibility for the decisions I made,” he said. At a circuit where overtaking is hard, Hamilton chose to start on a new medium tyre and commit to a one-stop strategy, hoping the longer first stint would pay off. The medium did not match the performance of the soft compound used by rivals. Although his second stint showed improved pace, the progress he needed never materialised.

The critical moment came under the Virtual Safety Car. Ferrari called him in, yet Hamilton missed the pit entry. Rather than recover the situation, he decided to stay out and defend track position. In the closing laps tyre degradation became severe. He lost three places in quick succession and crossed the line in P6. “Today wasn’t the result we were looking for and it was on me. Finishing P6 doesn’t reflect the pace we had in the car today.” Hamilton said

The statement has already sparked debate among fans. Some sections of the people said that the team should have been more forceful in the moment, while others praised Hamilton for accepting accountability so publicly. Ferrari still possesses a competitive package, and Hamilton’s willingness to confront his own error may prove more valuable in the long run than any single result.

The Singapore weekend leaves Ferrari with questions about communication under pressure and Hamilton with a reminder of how fine the margins remain at the front of the grid. By owning the mistake so completely, Hamilton has given the team and himself a clean slate. The focus now shifts to the next challenge, where both driver and squad will look to bounce back stronger.
