Venue: New Douglas Park

League leaders Rangers are scheduled to visit New Douglas Park on Saturday to face Hamilton Academical as they continue their quest to lift their first Scottish Premiership title since returning to the top flight.

After getting back to winning ways last weekend against Kilmarnock, following their disappointing goalless draw against Livingston, the Gers will be eager to bag three more points at the weekend to keep their title charge on track.

The Accies, on the other hand, are in desperate need of points for reasons of their own. They have been in dismal form since the start of the new season, losing three in a row before returning to winning ways in their last match against Motherwell.

Brian Rice’s team will be eager to build on that win and come out with a positive result against Rangers on Saturday.

Hamilton vs Rangers: Recent form

Hamilton Accies: W-L-L-L-W

Rangers: W-D-W-W-L

Hamilton had to toil hard against Motherwell in their last match on 22nd August. In fact, they had to wait until the 86th minute to break the deadlock, with Hakeem Odoffin finding the back of the net to hand Hamilton their first win of the season after three successive losses.

Rangers, on the other hand, got back to winning ways after beating Kilmarnock 2-0 at Ibrox. New signing Kemar Roofe was on the scoresheet, while Ryan Kent added a second in the 77th minute to earn all three points for Steven Gerrard‘s side.

Hamilton vs Rangers: Head-to-head record

Total Matches: 27

Hamilton Accies wins: 3

Rangers wins: 22

Draws: 2

Hamilton won 1-0 against Rangers the last time the two sides met back in March at Ibrox this year, just before the suspension of the 2019-20 Scottish Premiership season.

David Moyo scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute, and in spite of the Gers enjoying 77 per cent overall possession, they just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Hamilton vs Rangers: Team news

Hamilton

There are no fresh injury worries for Brian Rice’s team ahead of their last match of the month, but a few key players still remain sidelined.

Skipper Brian Easton has been out of action with an ankle injury and is set to be sidelined until at least October. Midfielder William Guy Collar has a shin injury, while Ronan Hughes is also recuperating from a hamstring issue.

Rangers

There is no fresh news regarding Jermain Defoe and Nikola Katic, who remain sidelined with long-term injuries.

Midfielder Joe Aribo is also going to be sidelined for the match, but Steven Gerrard revealed that defender Leon Balogun will be available for selection. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor has also been training with the team for the entire week and will be in contention for a place in the starting XI.

Hamilton vs Rangers: Predicted line-up

Hamilton Accies: Predicted line-up (4-4-2): Ryan Fulton; Lee Hodson, Shaun Want, Hakeem Odoffin, Scott McMann; Lewis Smith, Ross Callachan, Reegan Mimnaugh, David Templeton; Callum Smith,  David Moyo.

Rangers: Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Jon McLaughlin; James Tavernier, Filip Helander, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic; Steven Davis, Ryan Jack; Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Cedric Itten; Kemar Roofe

Hamilton vs Rangers: Where to watch

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event for fans in the UK and Ireland.

Supporters across the world can also have access to the match through the SkyGo app.

Hamilton vs Rangers: Prediction

In spite of Hamilton having managed to register a narrow win against Rangers away from home last time around, it would be difficult for them to follow that success up.

Steven Gerrard has strengthened his side manifold this time around and even if Brian Rice’s side take a defensive approach on Saturday afternoon, the Liverpool legend has enough options to change the formation and get that winning goal.

Hamilton vs Rangers predicted scoreline: 0-2
