New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips has created history in T20 International cricket by breaking the world record for the most runs scored by a batter in a bilateral T20I series. The right-handed batter finished the five-match series against India with an incredible 341 runs, surpassing England’s Phil Salt, who previously held the record with 331 runs against the West Indies in 2023.
Phillips achieved the remarkable milestone during the fifth and final T20I against India at Seddon Park in Hamilton on November 1. Chasing a target of 192 runs, the 29-year-old remained unbeaten on 65 off just 38 deliveries, helping New Zealand register a seven-wicket victory with 12 balls to spare.
His performance throughout the series was nothing short of extraordinary. Phillips started with an unbeaten 82 in Christchurch before scoring 70 in the second T20I. After a relatively quiet outing of 17 in Wellington, he bounced back spectacularly with a magnificent 107 off 49 balls in the fourth match at Auckland.
He then finished the series with another unbeaten half-century in Hamilton.
Overall, Phillips accumulated 341 runs in five matches at an astonishing average of 113.66 and a strike rate of 185.32. His tally included one century and three half-centuries, along with 29 fours and 20 sixes.

Interestingly, despite Phillips’ record-breaking individual performance, India managed to win the five-match T20I series 3-2 after securing victories in the first three encounters. New Zealand bounced back by winning the final two matches.
Phillips was deservedly named Player of the Series for his outstanding contribution. His 341-run tally has now established a new benchmark in bilateral T20I cricket, making his performance against India one of the most memorable batting displays in the format’s history.
