The FIFA World Cup is about to make history once again in the world of football. After nearly a month of thrilling matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, we’ve arrived at the grand finale, where Spain and Argentina are gearing up for an epic showdown at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 20 (12:30 AM IST). This year, in addition to the coveted trophy and gold medals, the winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will also receive custom championship rings, marking a first in the tournament’s history. This exciting addition not only serves as a new symbol of victory but also provides the champions with a unique keepsake to remember their incredible achievement on the sport’s biggest stage.
The customised rings draw inspiration from a long-standing tradition in American sports, where championship-winning teams are honoured with commemorative jewellery. FIFA confirmed that the rings will be handed to the winners after the final in New York New Jersey Stadium, “In a momentous first for a FIFA competition, the tournament winners will also receive bespoke championship rings, bringing one of the most recognisable American sporting traditions to the global game.”
FIFA to Produce 2,026 Championship Rings for Players and Fans
FIFA is set to produce a total of 2,026 championship rings, each one uniquely numbered, to celebrate the upcoming 2026 tournament. Out of these, 30 rings are specially reserved for the members of the winning team, while the remaining 1,996 will be made available worldwide as official licensed collectibles for fans. The design will incorporate elements that pay homage to the tournament’s rich legacy. One side of each ring will showcase the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy, while the other side will be personalized to reflect the identity and symbols of the champions. Each ring will also be individually numbered, crafted to fit its owner perfectly, and will come with a certificate of authenticity.
Right after the final whistle blows, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary versions of the rings during the on-field celebrations. FIFA will then create custom editions for all 30 recipients, which will be formally presented as lasting mementos of their incredible achievement.
As for the final match, it promises to be a spectacular event, marking the historic debut of these rings. Spain is on the hunt for their second World Cup title, having previously won in 2010, and they made it to the final by defeating France 2-0 in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Argentina, the reigning champions, are aiming for their fourth world title, having triumphed in 1978, 1986, and 2022. Lionel Messi’s team secured their spot in the final with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over England, setting the stage for one of the most eagerly awaited World Cup finals in recent history.
